The gum tree across the road sways it leaves as the wind whistles.
It calms me,
puts all the stress to bed.
I take my dog for a run around, in that park, where the gum tree lives.
When I kick my footy, the tree steals it, I run to the tree, giggling, I climb it, rising up above the leaves.
The leaves kindly give it back,
This tree brings me so much joy.
When I’m infuriated, exhilarated or petrified, I just fly out the front door, sprint to the gum tree across the road,
Sit next to the tree, talk to it, like it’s a real person.
Now, sometimes I worry about the gum tree.
When it storms,
I look out the window, I see its leaves swaying angrily,
It’s terrifying to see your tree struggling,
But my tree is a fighter, it keeps going,
It’s persistent,
I love my tree,
And I’ll always remember it.
