THE LAUGHING TREE

The tree laughed with delight
When my kick missed the ball
Knowing that I might
Take a big fall.
I did a great kick
But, then it hit a stick
And rebounded backwards
And made me spin sidewards.
I spun into a tremendous tree
That caught me from banging my head on the concrete
Then I noticed it was black and white
And it was during the dead of night.
Tired trees sway softly in the moonlight
The wind whistles a haunting howl
Leaves listlessly fall to the ground
The possum pounces on a lazy lizard.
Then I travelled home, home to my cosy chamber
With the bouncing ball that held my mortal
And I was finally at home and tried to remember
How that had even happened in the first place.
