The Mary River Turtle

Drifting peacefully across the Mary River,

Carrying its home on its back.

He is covered with a palette of red to brown, 

and sometimes even black.

Emerald green algae growing on their head,

Like freshly cut grass as soft as a bed.

They are mainly Herbivores, but also eat fish,

All of these plants and animals make up the perfect dish.

Only 10,000 of these animals live to this day,

To blame are the foxes, wild dogs and goannas that call them its prey.

With its webbed feet and low streamlined shell,

It glides through the waters and announces farewell.

The deaths of this creature is slowly increasing,

And each death is truly piercing.
