The Natural Carpet

The slimy leaves squelch under my feet as I
Trek through the damp, shadowy environment
A flash of colour catches my eye
Forcing me to look down
To see the forest floor covered
With a carpet of mushrooms
Over here, red with white,
And here yellow
And other clinging to the side of trees
Like a staircase to the sky
I could stand here for hours,
Captured by these tiny pops of colour
In the bland green and brown landscape.
