The ocean used to breathe                                          Within it we believed

In peace, in hope, in glory.

The ocean rose and then it fell                                    Within it we felt

  Lost, lonely, little.

As we stood we heard waves                                        Crashing against the cliff rocks

An ancient heart                                    Beat-beat-beating

In time with our own.

Long days                                                                                                  Summer sand

Watching the whales before they      Swam away into the forever

Sunset.

Now in the ocean there's nothing left                                   Nothing but plastic garbage

The ocean's carcass breathing no more              An ancient heart

Silenced by hands that thought                                      They knew best.
