The Old Coin

Like the Earth’s crust, round and dented,
As valuable as treasure,
Causing love and causing pain.
The wars it has started,
The deaths and the torture,
The love and peace,
And the tears it has brought.
It looks at you gleamingly,
Trying to bring out the greed,
Eating your emotions,
One by one.
The coin you resisted,
Puts lives to an end,
Makes others happier,
But can ruin lives,
Its sisters and brothers, long forgotten.
