The Pink Monkey Fabrics

Little brown monkeys
printed on pink
wash after was
they began to shrink

Their souls has courted mine
protecting me from the world
the fabrics so soft and smooth
now torn, tattered and burled.

Sincere and comforting
now abandoned and unused
loosing their colouring, which
was so vibrantly infused.

"Out with the old" mother said
folding the blankets onto the shelf
but for me this statement
never truly would sit with myself.

The threads undone,
the tails uncurled
my teen years began
and my childhood furled.
