The Race

Riders ready! Watch the gate!
I balanced and lunged, ready to win.
After the race Joel looked at me with hate.
All because I beat him,
I felt that victory as I sat on the hill.
Beep, beep, beep race two has commenced.
Next I'm sliding, like ice on a hot day.
The medic ran over,
My bike nearly took off my head that day,
Like a big black bolder it had saved my head.
I lifted it off, felt its weight,
Limping and lilting from the wreck
I walked free – my Dad with my bike.
