The Ring

I smiled at the ring that I had found in the sand, I knew I
would have magic powers once the gold touched my hand.
I bent down slowly, to get a closer stare, and reached out a hand,
which shook with anticipation and fear.
As the tips of my fingertips touched the cold, hard gold,
a series of events started to unfold.
A dog started howling as a car crashed in the distance,
a cat started hissing as it questioned a birds existence.
A boy started screaming because he'd dropped his blessed ice-cream,
and a girl started screaming as a nightmare invaded her dream.
I dropped the ring in shock, as a boy cried because someone tricked him,
and the ring lay waiting, waiting for its next victim.
