The River

The river makes me feel calm and safe
I go there when I am stressed or sad
She smells like the clean filtered air of the countryside 
She sounds like rapid water running endlessly 
She tastes  like the fresh mountain water straight from the stream
The sunlight smiles down on the river as it peacefully smiles back
Crystal-clear water runs freely as I sit on a rock and listen to her song
I ask, “Will you be my friend forever?”
“Yes, but only as long as you live as I don’t die so I will always be able to befriend little girls like you"
She replies kindly
