In this land down below where the sun needs to fight to be seen is where I’ve made my home

The water engulfs my skin as I swim through the swarms of fish

Mouth open wide to capture my prey

The salty water streams into my mouth, out through my gills

My speckled skin soaking up the rays of sunlight as I breach the surface

Plunging back down into the abyss

I hear the plankton flit away before I can swallow them whole

The shrimp’s fishy aroma catches my attention pulling me away from the plankton

Their bright shells entertain the eye as they dance through the water

I filter them out of the water creating a delicious meal

I glide and swerve capturing as many as I can

Once I’ve had my fill, I continue diving further down so that the light is all but gone

Travelling along I see my friends finding their meals as well

This is our life, the life of a whale shark
