Disguised by a beautiful name,

Our hope like a dying candle flickers and pales,

Draining life away drill by drill,

The people of Alaska weep.

Displaced, the polar bears starve,

Their home derailed, denuded, denied,

Majestic ice mounds melt and crack,

Dreaming of a time when animals were free.

I do not have a future,

Sorrow, deep sorrow seeps,

Panic leads to anger, to fury,

I don’t care, I wither, I droop.

Apathy overwhelms, creeping like a cold shudder into my veins,

Our friends, our fellow beings are dying,

For what? For money? For tons and tons of energy?

For what? For greed.
