As we awoke

Under the infinite expanse of sky

We gazed at those burning lights

Lying on warm earth

Dreaming

Amongst that sacred beauty we thought

Of changing our world

To some higher kind of being

The blessing of our existence

Wasn’t enough

So we built

Those concrete pillars rising high

Towering over the very ground on which we had been nurtured

Nameless valleys, mountains and plains

Gone

But now our dreams have passed

And long after our creations have ground to dust

We gaze at those fading lights

And we wonder

Why?
