Titanium

Metal detectors
Titanium drilled deep
Delicate agony, gluing me together
Keeping me in one fragment
Suffering the consequences of January regrets
Memories of the day return
Mountains flawlessly arranged by tectonic plates
Fitting each other exquisitely, like a puzzle
Piercing the creamy clouds
Blindingly pearl, captivating
Nestled in the soul of thousands of mountain-ranges, a place is perched
Sun Valley
Grandiose evergreen trees scrape the sky, coated in thick, luscious icing
Minuscule icicles hanging from them, radiate sunlight
Snowflakes elegantly descend, gleefully promenading around
Enchanting snow-covered pines spiral into the mountaintops
Welcoming you among them, hypnotizing you to venture skywards
You pursue your expedition to the peak
You are on the frosty terrain, leaping off the chairlift
Undeniable excitement commences immediately
Velocity and adrenaline take jurisdiction
Complications and dilemmas disintegrate
Snow playfully sprays you
Plummeting down the vertical slope
You feel dominant, unstoppable and passionate
This ramp is treacherous
Black Diamond
The acceleration and adrenaline is impossible to harness and domesticate
One inaccurate move and you’re destroyed
The captivating wonderland I marveled about from the chairlift, abruptly transposed
Soaring evergreens now towered over me, pressuring me, making me feel vulnerable
Delicate snowflakes transformed, icy and serrated, pelting me, burning my skin
Howling wind, blowing through my ski gear, forcing me off balance
The pain, the intolerable, excruciating pain
Screaming, I can’t form words
Slurring, attempting to string a sentence
Like the sun disappearing behind the horizon, my life and strength were just out of reach
My world fading, my vision blurring and everything contorting
My consciousness dropped in and out
Everything was swaying and crashing over me
They arrived, like angels
I screamed and shuddered as they scooped me onto the stretcher
Scraping up what was left
Unfamiliar and melodic, a voice spoke to me
Understanding each word was like cracking an undecipherable code
I gripped onto the world, the blurry, painfully world
Mustering strength, I kept my eyes open
Petrified if I closed them, they would never open again
People lifting me into the ambulance, poking me, injecting needles
Morphine pumped through my veins
Confusion, Nightmares, Pain
Unimaginable agony
Between surgeries and x-ray checkups, reality hit
Bones snapped
Life-changing
No running, no sport, not myself
Falling apart
High school on crutches, with metal screws holding my leg together
Those pieces of titanium have kept me as one
When the doctors were perplexed on how to fix me, the titanium did the job
Drilled deep into my bones, it kept me together while I healed
