I remember the days when the bush was lush
I remember the days when they were all here
Not cut down to make room for concrete roads
Or big cities
When animals found refuge in my leaves and hollows
From the bad things humans did
When the black men roamed the scrub in search of food
And picked fruit off my branches
When the little ones climbed me for fun
Not to escape the raging cars
I remember the days when no harm came to us
I remember the days when I was free.
