Turtle Lives

Splash! I go
With my brothers and sisters
My mother’s out there
Swimming all alone
I struggle to go but still make it
Until an animal with holes
Suddenly appears.
Without care it viciously takes me
From my home and family
I stare hopelessly as my life leaves me

Year after year my friends are born
Year after year they venture all alone
Year after year the vicious animal comes
Year after year he takes nearly all of us
Year after year we suffer the same
All of us will slowly diminish
Until one or maybe none remain
