Humans forget a lot

Humans forget that 150 species become extinct each day

Humans forget that about 50,000 bush fires happen every year in Australia

Humans forget that 99% of animals are extinct

Humans forget that with climate change, temperatures rise every year, and rise again

Humans forget that

One koala said to another with foggy eyes

They cuddled each other in the old Tasmanian blue gumtree

As they looked around, they no longer saw different varieties of scattered trees

Instead they saw piles of artificially coloured rubbish growing bigger by the day on the forest floor

Thick grey smoke consuming and suffocating their throats

Making their eyes tear up and their noses feel heavy

On the other side of the forest, a ruby red and blinding orange tore across the forest like a crashing wave magically turning everything in its path to deathly black.

Before the koala closes his sleepy eyes, he looks at the sky

The pale moon against the midnight sky surrounded by millions of glittering white stars

That is the last thing he sees...

Forever

For humans always forget
