What The Ocean Means To Me

When life gets tough, I run back to one place.
When I want to curl up into a ball and cry, it’s the one thing that calms me.
When I feel like no one loves me, something does.
When I feel like the world hates me, it makes me feel like I belong.
When I feel so overwhelmed, I instantly feel at peace.
When I feel like I am all alone, I have someone to talk too.
When I dive into the murky waves with a splash and let the water flow around me.
When I jump onto my smooth blue surfboard and only focus on the contrasting sounds around me.
The pestering seagulls fighting over chips,
The waves pounding the grainy yellow sand like it has something against it,
The delighted screams of children playing footy with their friends,
The sound of the amused surfers as they catch the best wave of the day,
The parent’s quiet sighs as their hard work pays off,
The triple chocolate ice cream dripping onto the stained concrete,
The bug spray going onto young angry children,
This is what the ocean means to me.
