What Would It Take?

What would it take for you to love me?

What would it take for you to admire me with a twinkle in your eye?

What would it take for you to feel proud of me?

Oh please tell me, I’m begging you   

What would it take for you to love me?

I gave you my everything and you took it all with not one drop of gratitude    

But now I have nothing left to hand over 

I would’ve done anything to make you love me  

And I tried, I really did 

So much so that my branches are bare and my river has run dry 

Everything I had, I gave to you  

And what did you do with my love?

Oh deer child of mine, you cut me down 

You got an axe and chopped me in half, right in the middle of my already torn heart

I wanted to protect you and keep you safe but what did you do? 

You write all over me without a care in the world 

You used and abused me
