While We Wait

While we wait whispering in the wailing wind, sitting on the edge on the sparkling wet jetty watching the navy blue waves.
We listen to the creaking metal, CrEaK.
Watching water wait for when the tide comes in.
To wash up seashells holding the sounds of the ocean to tell us what it was like on their trip in the water.
WHOOSH, the wind howled like a wolf in a full moon.
The eerie storm has come without warning.
SNAP, CRACK, the jetty cut in half like a knife through butter, wood strewn everywhere.
Darkness takes over my vision, yelling voices are distant, getting further away, then everything goes dark.
When I wake up, the smell of sea water fills my lungs.
The only thing I see for kilometres is water, plain ocean.
My heart races at the scene pinching myself over and over to get out of this dream, the problem is, it’s not a dream, it's real. Riding the small waves with the part of the jetty as a raft, I am thirsty and hungry.
I yell out for help, flashing S.O.S lights with a torch, nothing, only the sound of splashing water.
I use driftwood to expand the raft except my bad luck is back, SNAP, the wood breaks off, splinters float along like a chip off the old block.
Still, no help comes to me.
Nothing works, I'm adrift in the sea, searching for land.
