Wonder to Dust

The mighty gum spreads strong and tall,
Towering above us all.
Its toughened roots grow large and deep,
Spreading even when we sleep.
Its proud, strong branches reach out far,
Almost touching dancing stars.
This mighty tree has us in awe,
And yet it dies from one quick saw.
One swift cut; it’s no longer tall,
Now instead it has to fall.
Its body thuds upon the ground,
Its memories never to be found.
