after Walter Withers

Beyond white houses
The haze and frost of daybreak on the flats
In these morning hours a filtered light

Beyond a simple bridge
The well-trodden road beckons
While under the bridge, whisper of Yarra

In the shed perhaps work is starting
And on scuffed ground you push
Onward as though day never ended, dawned
