The radio waves produced by lightning are called sferics
Because mosquitoes can fly but a fly can’t mosquito
This isn’t the first time ‘Creep’ has been involved in a legal battle
An eye-for-an-eye trade war will leave us blind
Because mosquitoes can fly but a fly can’t mosquito
I’d like to see them both in court demonstrating the muzak
That will leave us in brine, an ear-for-an-ear tirade warp
That the judge will fall asleep on as soon as Del Rey starts
Remonstrating the muzak I’d like to see broth
& animated bears run through the scene
The judge flailing in his sleep as soon as Del Rey sparkles
Using broken instruments to make incomparably beautiful music
Animated bears run through the Anthropocene
This isn’t the first time a legal battle has involved crepes
Abusing broken instruments to make incompatibly beautiful music
The radio waves produced by lightning are called sferics

Gossip is the Devil’s radio
One of the Libs thinks they stopped the boats
A five-foot monitor lizard called Bubbles has escaped from a pet shop
He isn’t dangerous but please call animal control if you spot him
Drinking boats with Libs who stoop
Making the same mistakes on immigration
He isn’t dangerous but please control your animal if he’s spotted
Kissing your partner’s godly teeth
Smacking the same take, the mist over immigration
Our hackers are the best, I know it sounds prideful, but
Kissing your partner is good for your teeth
In a movie, a plaque, in Russian it’s pretty good too
I know it sounds pitiful, but our best is having a shocker now
Lizards are on their feet in the pet shop, bubbling & squeaking at the monitor
& plucky Russians keep moving the goalposts
Gossip is the Devil’s radio

My bath toys were a toaster & a radio
In other bubbles news, the stock & bonds markets
Would like to remind you there are millions of C–Em–F–G songs in the world
Loopmasters to collect one hundred percent of royalties
In & under the Blues, stocks & bonds market
Who is to play at the Super Bowl
Master Luke to collect one thunderbird’s sense of royalty
If you really wanna piss off Star Wars fans, tell them
The Who are playing at the Spock Bowl
This is not a reshuffle, it’s a recycle, & I’d prefer to hear The Drones
Telling Star Wars fans to piss off by singing in real time
Lightning occurs more frequently within clouds
Reshuffling, these are not the droids you’re looking to wrestle
We’d like to remind you there are a bazillion C–Em–F–G songs in the world
Lightning occurring more frequently within clouds
My bath toys were a toaster & a radio

In radio you have two tools: sound & silence
Available for disasters when other communications are down
If you dress smartly in bright colours
Bubbling, Ewoks will def run & gun behind the scenes
Available for dissing stars—alakazam!—in surround sound
What song comes to mind when you sport
Bubbles & Ewoks at sea—deaf, blind, serene from RAHing again
You can’t copyright a chord progression but, can you?
What song comes to mind when you’re spotted
Ripping off the air that I breathe like a creep getting free
Copyright on all cant & core progressive Kanyes
IMAGINE all the people cliquing, streaming, up- & downloading
Like air ripped, scot-free—hey, a crepe’s gotta breathe
Undressed of all “your” smart bright colours
IMAGINE all the peep-shows, click-storms, popped clouds
In radio you have two tools: sound & silence

Note: 'Sferics' re-airs phrases found on Twitter (#heardonradio), and from a Google search of "radio quotes".

'Sferics' was commissioned as part of a poetry and circuit drawing workshop held for Riverside Girls' High School students at the Powerhouse Museum with poet Toby Fitch and Powerhouse Museum staff, which tied into Red Room Poetry's Poetry Object competition and learning resources. Students interacted with special objects on display at the museum and created unique poems based on their own objects.
