Reborn from the water,
I am undrowned.
~ Yasaman Bagheri from 'Drowned on Shore'

Writing from a new generation of women with experiences of detention in Australia.

Australia's detention system continues to deny people in our community access to basic daily freedoms, both corporeal and visceral. Women and girls in particular face great challenges to their to safety, health, work and study. Only through the cessation of this injustice will we see a true removal of social barriers and a diversity of race, gender, religious and social and economic opportunities.

Created, curated, edited and translated by human rights journalist and writer, Saba Vasefi, Writing in Resistance amplifies the voices and stories of women poets with experiences living in detention. This project aims to emancipate and elevate voices that have been dampened by oppressive cultural, political and social systems.
