A true gift from God I receive.
A soft fabric that wraps around my head like a shield,
a sign of maturity: I wear it like layer of protection.
It covers my hair revealing nothing but my true identity:
my belief, my faith, my religion.

I walk proudly in my hijab with modesty
Yet the roaring sound of hate still vibrates in the air.
“What are you wearing?”
A simple question, yet an attack to the head
Starting a war zone in my mind, my heart and my soul.

This hijab creates a sense of happiness that engulfs my body
filling my empty heart with light.
A feeling of safety and bravery mixed together like a potion,
Strengthening my body
To believe, hope and trust in Allah.

Bismilahir-rahmanir-rahim (In the name of God, the merciful and compassionate)
a sentence spoken with pure sincere.
In every prayer, recitation and intentions we make,
As we worship Allah in the best of ways.
Victory! The war in my head has vanished, Amin.
