“Poetry both simplifies my world and complicates it at the same time.”

~ Tony Birch, commissioned as part of Poetry Month 2021

August is Poetry Month - a national celebration of Australian poetry, poets and publishers.

Launched in 2021 by Red Room Poetry, Poetry Month aims to increase access, awareness and visibility of poetry in all its forms and for all audiences. Each year, Poetry Month (1-31 August) features a line-up of poetic celebrations, commissions, events and showcases for every state and territory to get involved in.

The full program will be revealed in July. Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to find out.

Poetry Month Calendar - Now Open

In recognition of the incredible range of poetic voices, communities and curators across the continent, we’re asking you to be part of the program! The Poetry Month Calendar warmly invites all Australian arts organisations and community groups to submit their August events for possible inclusion in the Calendar.

Eight events from across the continent - one from each state and territory - will be selected from our Poetry Month Calendar open callout to receive a $500 micro grant plus marketing support for your event as part of Poetry Month.

Submit your event to the Poetry Month Calendar by Monday 19 June to automatically be considered for a micro grant. The selected events will be notified the week of 26 June, and can invoice from the date you are notified.
