Red Room Radio and The Red Room Epic Project were awarded the prestigious Best New Innovative Radio Program at the 2002 National Community Radio awards run by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia. Red Room Radio continues to broadcast highlights from our projects through podcasts and the Community Radio Satellite network.
In 2007-08, the New & Collected Summer Series collated interviews and readings from Red Room’s radio archive, collected since 2002 when we first broadcast to community radio listeners in Sydney’s eastern and inner-west suburbs.
The Summer Series treats your ears to conversations with writers such as Geoffrey Atherden, Mireille Juchau and Ashley Hay, and features poet Jane Gibian performing on radio for the first time. Many of the poets profiled in 2002 have gone on to be some of the country’s most active writers and members of the literary community.
Now, Red Room’s audio broadcasts nationally and the poets are recorded at a private studio in Sydney and live at public events.
The Summer Series was broadcast nationally as four fifteen-minute shows over one month in February 2008. You can access the series here:
Episode 1 features Judith Beveridge, Michael Farrell and Deb Westbury
Episode 2 features Morganics, Philip Salom, Anna Kerdijk Nicholson, Alan Wearne, Trisha Dearborn, and Jessica Chang
Episode 3 features Luke Davies, Alicia Sometimes, Kate Lily, Jennifer Compton, Ben Doran, and Eytan Messiah
Episode 4 features Bravo Child, Emily Ballou, John West, Lisa Gorton, Mark O'Flynn, and Paul Hardacre.
To launch the re-release of the Red Room Radio archive, we commissioned Sydney poet [[Jill Jones]] to produce a new work and interview for podcasting to coincide with Arts Law Week 2008. Jones wrote three sonnets and offered up an image of her materials and drafts by Annette Willis.
Stay tuned for new Red Room Radio broadcasts!
